The morning of October 6, 1981, started just like any other: you woke up from a restless sleep, got ready for the day, and drove to the ranger station where you had been employed for the previous 11 years.
The peaceful community of Aurora Hills, which was once tucked away in the Appalachian mountains, has been virtually destroyed by a string of disappearances. As you drive through the now-run-down small town, only a sense of desolation permeates the area.
When you got there that morning, Jen wasn’t at the ranger station. She prefers to start the day early because she is the only other park ranger, and by the time you got there, she had driven to one of the numerous closed-off hiking trails to begin looking for the missing individuals.
You head off the main trail to meet up with her and explore the more isolated areas of the national park, following her note trail. However, your worst fears come true when you locate her camp: Jen is nowhere to be found, the area has been looted, her tent has been destroyed, and her equipment is scattered throughout the campsite.
Since it is already midday and the sun sets early this time of year, there is no time to go back. Braving the forest at night is the only thing worse than venturing into it by yourself. Now that the trail is so new, you can’t leave Jen behind.
